Prague- The Golden City

Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic. The city is the biggest one in the country and has more than 1.2 million inhabitants. It is situated on the Vltava River in central Bohemia. Prague is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites and is one of the most visited places in Europe.

Prague’s historic importance spans beyond being the capital of the Czech Republic. It reached its highest peak when it became the seat of the Holy Roman Emperor in the 14th century. Since then date the first Gothic cathedral and university in central Europe. The city was a place of important European religious and political debates. It also had a very diverse nature- there were sizable minorities of Germans, Italians and Jews.

The city of Prague is Europe sixth most popular tourist destination after Paris, London, Rome, Madrid and Berlin. The city attracts visitors with its historic architecture. There can be seen architectural wonders of the Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Art Nouveau, Cubist, and Neo-classical styles. Some of the most famous sights are the Prague Castle, Old Town, Old Town Square, New Town, Mala Strana, the Old New Synagogue, the Pisek Gate and may other.

The climate in Prague is oceanic with warm summers and cold winters. There are distinct four seasons with temperatures varying from – 20 to +35 °C. The summer and autumn are considered the best time to visit this beautiful city.

The city is served by the Ruzyne International Airport Prague. It is located 10 km west from the city and is the home airport for the Czech Airlines. There are other two small airports that also serve the city – Kbely Airport and Aero Vodochody Airport.
